History

There was a great development of manufactured cement products in the second half of the 19th century. Thus, the cement tile arose in France and it spread, particularly in the Mediterranean, with its technical and aesthetic characteristics. In the sixties, the cement tile got competition from ceramic tiles. Through the simple and inexpensive production, they ousted the cement tile, whose beauty was to be admired only in older homes. In the early nineties, the new cement tile was discovered and there were more and more lovers of this kind of flooring design. In recent years, the cement tiles are experiencing a renaissance taking place.

Installation and Maintenance of Cement Tiles

Due to the unique nature of the cement tiles, special measures must be taken to obtain the full beauty and durability. When laying the cement tiles, the same rules that must be followed when installing other tiles. This includes that the load-bearing should be dry and low vibration The adhesive cement glue should be used for natural stones. It is laid in the middle bed. Apply the adhesive to substrate and the tile back. Traditionally, cement tiles are laid with a small gap of about 2.5 mm.
This is particularly important in multi-colored cement tiles so that the patterns come into play. Since Articima’s cement tiles are produced entirely by hand (and therefore small fluctuations occur in the color shades), you should mix the tiles of different packages. Make sure that the tiles are carefully leveled to avoid overhanging edges. Please do not use a hammer because the tiles may crack. Remains of adhesive and grout must be removed immediately with a damp cloth. Joint material use which is suitable for marble and natural stone. Since the cement tiles are porous, they are to be sealed after installation. It is important that the soil is completely dry. Please refer to the instructions of the manufacturer. When cleaning, use acid products. We recommend using the services of an experienced tiler.
